The Voices

Voice, in writing, is an absolutely crucial element. Whichever yours may be, it connects you as a writer to your reader and frames your entire text. Emily Colucci exemplifies a sharp and sarcastic voice - which I find to be very effective in critical texts. While remaining interesting and accessible, there is valuable information and comprehensive opinions being communicated. Comparatively, the casual nature of their voices in the Chris Kraus interview - like with their playful swearing, created a genuine and trustable tone which sometimes isn’t present in more formal or serious writing. I think finding a healthy balance within this range from serious to casual is really important for writing, I am definitely trying to develop my own writing skills in that capacity. The more loose style, different from one like Colucci, works to make the reader feels as though they are participating in a conversation between friends. I also noticed this fun tone in the interview where Wayne Koestenbaum talks about abut his butt-cheeks with Bruce Hainley - definitely a notable moment from week sevens readings.
